COALITION AGAINST FAMILY VIOLENCE APPOINTS FIRST EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

(Columbus) – The Columbus Coalition Against Family Violence today announced Karen Days as the first person to serve as executive director for the organization. In her new position the Coalition's day-to-day administrative, development and program operations.

"Karen's unique blend of experiences - from the prosecutor's office to the United Way - is a great match for the needs of the Coalition," said Abigail Wexner, leader of the Columbus Coalition Against Family Violence (CCAFV). "Karen's skills will boost the Coalition's efforts to assist those organizations who are helping the victims of family violence."

Wexner said that the Coalition seeks to create a community culture that does not tolerate family violence. It does this through mobilizing community resources, raising community awareness, supporting new initiatives for prevention and intervention, and through increasing and enhancing community participation.

Before joining the Coalition, Days worked as safety critical needs specialist for the United Way; assistant chief of grants for the Office of Criminal Justice Services; crime prevention specialist for the Alliance for Cooperative Justice; and night director for the Columbus City Prosecutor's Office.

Days will begin her new duties as executive director for the CCAFV on September 7th. Days may be reached at the Columbus Coalition Against Family Violence, c/o the Children's Hospital Foundation, 700 Children's Drive in Columbus.

The CCAFV engages in several proactive measures to help create nonviolent cultures. They include:
Research and identify unmet needs and best practices;
Expand and leverage community and financial resources to support services in collaboration;
Develop a community-wide campaign to support the no-tolerance position;
Recommend and advocate for legislation and public policies and;
Evaluate successes and share measurable results.
