COLUMBUS COALITION AGAINST FAMILY VIOLENCE LAUNCHES NEW WEB SITE

www.thecolumbuscoalition.org

(COLUMBUS) - The Columbus Coalition Against Family Violence is using cyberspace to help further its mission of breaking the cycle of violence in homes, schools, workplaces, and neighborhoods in our community. This is being done through the nonprofit organization's new web site - www.thecolumbuscoalition.org.

The purpose of the web site is to use the Internet to help professionals and individuals think differently and respond appropriately to the issue of family violence. The site makes it clear that family violence is a crime and should never be tolerated.

The web site offers the following information to organizations and individuals concerned about family violence in Central Ohio: the Coalition's task forces, their initiatives and activities; and the Coalition's partners - other nonprofit organizations, businesses, government agencies and volunteers.

"Our site was designed to reflect our mission and to reinforce that there is never an excuse for family violence," said Coalition Executive Director Karen S. Days. "It will be a living communication tool that will be continuously updated to reflect our community's progress as we strive to change attitudes and change lives."

Visitors to the site are greeted by an ever-changing tableau of faces and statistics on family violence. Site interactivity allows visitors to:
  • Subscribe to the Coalition's mailing list
  • Request printed materials
  • Find community resources if they or someone they know is a victim
Other features include links to related sites. One link goes directly to the New Albany Classic Invitational Grand Prix and Family Day web site - the Coalition's primary fundraiser.

The Columbus Coalition Against Family Violence was founded by Abigail S. Wexner in 1998 to improve the way individuals and institutions in Central Ohio respond to family violence. The Coalition does this by forming alliances with corporate, medical, faith communities, law enforcement and social service agencies. By fostering collaboration, the Coalition raises awareness and develops large-scale initiatives for violence prevention and intervention.

The Coalition focuses its work on five touch points - where the victim and societal institutions intersect - with task forces working to create systemic change. These task forces are: Business Community, Faith Community, Health Care, Legal System and Victim Services. To learn more, go to www.thecolumbuscoalition.org.

The Coalition web site was developed in conjunction with IDIO Technology Studios, Inc. a Cincinnati-based web design firm which donated a large part of its services.
