"THE DETRIMENTAL HOPE" AUDITIONS SLATED FOR JANUARY 21, 22

The Columbus Coalition Against Family Violence and The King Arts Complex looking for local female actors to star in play about family violence

(COLUMBUS) - The Columbus Coalition Against Family Violence and The King Arts Complex are co-presenting "The Detrimental Hope," a one act play by local playwright and domestic violence survivor Linda Early.

Six female actors are sought; three for the play's main characters and three for minor roles who also will be understudies to the main characters. Actors are asked to bring resumes, head shots and be prepared to do a cold reading from the script. There are stipends for all roles.

Auditions for the play will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, January 21 and 22 from 7 - 9:30 p.m. at The King Arts Complex Theatre, 867 Mount Vernon Avenue. Contact April Sturkey at The King Arts Complex with questions, 614-645-0630.

The one act play combines poetry, dance, music and drama, and looks at family violence from three perspectives - a victim, a counselor and a family member. It illustrates the "detrimental hope" many victims experience - that the relationship will be better next time.

"If you're female, from Central Ohio and have acting talent, then the Coalition and King Arts Complex want you to audition for ÔThe Detrimental Hope,'" said Columbus Coalition Against Family Violence Executive Director Karen S. Days.

"The play showcases a local playwright and we are looking for local talent to star in this production," said The King Arts Complex Executive Director Dr. Barbara R. Nicholson.

"The Detrimental Hope" is an initiative of the Coalition's Faith Community Task Force. The Coalition focuses its work on five "touchpoints" - where the victim and community institutions intersect - with task forces working to create systemic change. These task forces are: Business Community/Public Education, Faith Community, Health Care, Legal System and Victim Services.

Founded in 1998, The Columbus Coalition Against Family Violence is comprised of leaders from businesses and organizations in Central Ohio committed to reforming our systems to stop the cycle of violence in our community.
