DAYS PRESIDENT (COLUMBUS) - Columbus Coalition Against Family Violence Founder and Board Chair Abigail S. Wexner today announced that Karen S. Days has been named the organization's President. Days has been the Coalition's Executive Director since September 1999. A graduate of The Ohio State University, Days oversees the development and implementation of initiatives created by the Coalition's five task forces and its Board of Directors, as well as a staff of four. She is also earning a law degree at Capital University Law School. Before joining the Coalition, Days worked as the Safety Critical Needs Specialist at the United Way of Franklin County; as Assistant Chief of the Grants Section at the Office of Criminal Justice Services; as a Crime Prevention Specialist at the Alliance for Cooperative Justice; as Night and Weekend Director at the Columbus City Prosecutor's Office; and as a Fellow at the Office of Criminal Justice Services. She is a member and treasurer of the Board of Trustees for Westside-Eastside Child Care Centers Association, and received the first Karama Community Leadership Award from the Columbus Urban League in October 2001. "Karen's depth of experience on this issue has been critical to our success over the past five years. Her new position will further guide the Coalition as we continue our work to break the cycle of family violence in our community," Wexner said. "Family violence is still far too prevalent in Central Ohio. There were more than 6,000 cases of domestic violence and 3,000 cases of child abuse in Franklin County last year." The Coalition focuses its work on five touch points - where the victim and societal institutions intersect - with task forces working to create systemic change. These task forces are: Business Community/Public Education, Faith Community, Health Care, Legal System and Victim Services. Founded in 1998, the Columbus Coalition Against Family Violence is comprised of leaders from businesses and organizations in Central Ohio committed to reforming our systems to stop the cycle of violence in our community.
